So you are looking at the monthly events in your local community calendar and wondering who would be the most appropriate teacher for this metaphysical journey that you have embarked upon. Confusion reigns as the choices seem overwhelming and a number of questions run through your mind. “How do I pick the right teacher?” “Will it be the one teaching the coolest, new course? The cheapest or the one that is the most expensive?” “Should I choose the teacher who looks worst dressed, best dressed, or most exotic in their photo?”
There are individuals, groups, cults and organizations teaching different aspects of metaphysics, spirituality and spiritual systems all over the planet. How can you tell who is real and who is not? What qualifications do you need to become a metaphysical or spiritual teacher? Many teachers seem self – appointed in the West without much experience or training, while in eastern traditions it usually takes several years of intense study to achieve a master or teacher status. There are some programs in the U.S. that require certain standards and course study completion to be certified as having mastered a particular course of metaphysical or spiritual study. But how do you know if your teacher is certified? How do you know if your teacher is “walking their talk“?
A true teacher wants to empower you to rediscover all of your innate gifts and abilities including remembering all the spiritual knowledge you already have, but have not yet accessed. A true metaphysical instructor will be the one who teaches YOU to “be the channel” for your own self rather than constantly trying to distract you with past-life entertainment or “wow” you with their psychic or medium-ship abilities. There is certainly a time and place where past-life regression may be useful in one’s personal journey to find greater understanding of a specific issue. However, we often find ‘gurus’ using it as a curiosity to attract new customers or followers.
We suggest that you consider the following when you are looking for a serious metaphysical or spiritual teacher:
1. What are the teacher’s qualifications? Do they have a certification or degree from an accredited school? Do they have a divinity degree or a degree in metaphysics? Although certification and ‘degree’ is not the most important thing. Lineage through contact with someone with advanced understanding or with someone who truly has gone within to obtain that is revealed when someone truly ‘walks their talk’. The masters had lineage and often trained with other masters before them – even the most well-known avatars reached their enlightened status after training in the Ancient Mystery or Wisdom Schools of their era; and learning to meditate and go within to the tiny space in the sacred space of the heart to hear the ‘still small voice within’.
2. If they offer hypnotherapy or spiritual counseling, do they have training in counseling such as a Doctorate, Masters Degree or Read More→
The annual Taurus Wesak Full Moon in May (on May 14th in 2014 at 3:16pm exact in New York) heralds the Wesak Festival, a pinnacle of spiritual blessing in the world. There is an extraordinary inflow of life and of spiritual invigoration which serves to stimulate the aspiration of all humankind. The intuition of all who seek to serve the good, the beautiful and the true (regardless of their faith, religious or spiritual background) is significantly enhanced by this spiritual blessing.
At Wesak all people of goodwill can unite worldwide in a concentrated invocation to the Buddha, the Christ, and all Enlightened Beings by being still and going within in meditation. This is a time for heartfelt dedication, a time to stand steadily in the Light, and above all, a time to focus with compassion on the needs of our fellow human beings and the necessity of providing a group channel whereby the spiritual forces of all avataric beings can be poured through the body of humanity to promote Enightenment for all humans.
During the Wesak Full Moon period, the Buddha is said to empower Forces of Enlightenment which seek contact with humanity. At an annual ceremony in a Himalayan valley He returns yearly to bless an assembled gathering of Enlightened Beings, from the Christ, to the most humble disciple. Participants move in a ritual to form sacred geometric patterns on the valley floor, generating a spiritual connection that create an opening for the potent energies the Buddha will bring.
As the exact time of the Wesak full moon approaches, a heightened expectancy and tension spreads throughout those gathered. The moment of His appearance is accompanied by a great Silence, brimming with vitality, creative force, and significance.
One of the greatest services we can render during this high point of the spiritual calendar is to align with the spirit of Silence in the valley of Wesak. We can prepare to hold the inner connection, even when amid the mundane interactions of daily life.
Keeping a sustained inner silence, we stand as a detached observer – observing the flow of thoughts like clouds as they pass through us, while remaining detached from them – as we actively interact with the higher energies released by the Buddha at this special time. Through the silent meditation at the time of the Wesak Full Moon, we put ourselves in touch, not only with the soul, but with the Spirit aspect whose Presence awaits our contact and invocation. Thus we can serve the greater Whole of humanity.
The Buddha’s annual return at the Wesak Festival to bless people everywhere and to convey messages of wisdom, Light and Love is the outer evidence and promise of inner divine guidance and revelation in our present world cycle.
At 3:12pm (New York time) on May 14, 2014 (as the exact time of the full moon approaches), enter a silent meditation with the intention of Read More→
We have all set New Year’s Resolutions before…. and… let’s face it… more often than not we have usually given up on them within 2 weeks to 90 days into the new year. And we are left feeling empty, guilty and powerless when we have failed to shed the pounds, give up the bad habit, complete the goal or project, or begin the new exercise regimen we had ordered for our self. We essentially self-sabotaged from the beginning because more times than not we failed to get into our heart when we started the process. Then we beat our self up when we fail.
You’ve got to want it: An effective intention cannot be half-hearted. It needs to be a want, not a should. Get in touch with your deepest self, and discover what it is that you want with all your heart. Then, affirm that or set that intention. What really matters is that you really desire it. The problem with so many traditional New Year’s resolutions is that they tend to be “shoulds” or “oughts” rather than true desires. They are often what we believe others such as spouses, parents, therapists, physicians or friends would want us to Read More→
“Inner Christmas” 12 Holy Nights Dec 25 – Jan 6
Inner Christmas, a practice of inner renewal and development, begins on December 25 and unfolds nightly through January 6, the day of Epiphany. These are the 12 Holy Nights, a yearly time when our souls experience a unique connection with spiritual forces, the veils between heaven and earth lift and powerful inner insight and growth are possible.” ~ Lynn Jericho Inner Christmas
This is the perfect time of year (in the Yuletide prior to Epiphany on January 6th) to create sacred space to connect with that ‘inner still small voice’.
What is ‘Sacred Space’?
Sacred space can be as small as a deep cleansing breath you take in to clear your self or to prepare for meditation; or it can be a small physical space such as a window sill, an altar, or a larger space in a room in a home; or it may be larger still such as a garden or a cathedral or an ancient megalithic site. The primary importance is the intention of setting the space for sacred use or sacred connection to Nature, the ‘Divine’ or “All that is” in order to experience “I Am that I Am”.
How to Create Your Space?
It helps to choose a space that will not be likely to get cluttered or mixed with other energies. It may be a Read More→
The Shift Doctors (Tracy Latz, M.D. & Marion Ross, Ph.D.) have been following and supporting the wonderful research that our friends at The Institute of Heart Math heartmath.org. have been doing for more than 20 years. We feel moved to share their work on our website.
Their studies have shown overwhelmingly that people’s lives can measurably improve when they sincerely engage their heart qualities. It is what HeartMath calls being heart-focused or practicing heart-based living. Among the most powerful transformative qualities of the heart are: Love, Care, Compassion and Appreciation.
Change at the Speed of Point O
There has been a lot written and talked about in recent years of a great shift in global consciousness, which many say has actually been under way for decades. They believe its pace has begun accelerating, especially since the start of the new millennium. Read More→
