Tips for Dealing With Empty Nest Syndrome

By Tracy Latz · Comments (0)
Monday, August 13th, 2012

If we have done our job properly in raising our children, each child should eventually one day fly from the nest and out into the world to create wondrous independent lives, relationships and experiences of their own. While it is easy to understand this intellectually and logically, it is a bittersweet moment in the lives of parent and child alike. At the moment that a child leaves for college or moves away from home due to job or marriage/relationship, something irrevocably energetically changes in the parent-child relationship. The young vulnerable prince or princess that was born into your life is now a self-sufficient young adult with talents and gifts to share out in the world as they learn more about who they are through their relationships with others away from parental influence. Yes, things will never be the same… for child or parent.

When a child leaves home for college or other reasons, it is natural for parents to experience a mixture of emotions: pride at their child’s accomplishments, anxiety over their child’s safety in the world at large, joy and wonder to see their child spread their wings to fly, sadness over a sense of loss of nearness of a loved one, and occasional overwhelming rushes of bittersweet emotions as you reminisce over your child’s major milestones in life (birth, learning to walk, first day in kindergarten, learning to ride a bike, birthday celebrations, accomplishments, graduations, etc).

Young adults also have their own mix of emotions over making the transition from home to college or self-sufficiency. It is common for children leaving home to experience excitement over anticipated new experiences and friendships, fear of possible failure, angst over being away from parents who have been their in support of them emotionally and financially, sadness over distance from and loss of siblings/friends/significant others, and thirst/desire for knowledge or expanding their talents/gifts.

What can be done to ease the transition for both parent, young adult and siblings as the nest becomes less crowded?

The Two Wolves: Which Will You Choose to Feed?

The Cherokee Story of the Two Wolves:

An old Cherokee told his grandson: “My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy and truth.”

The boy thought about it, and asked: “Grandfather, which wolf wins?”

The old man quietly replied: “The one you feed.”

Our Inner Wolves

The Shadow Wolf: We all have our inner shadow characters fueled by our internal ego-based chatter. Whenever we are not in our heart , we are essentially in a negative, reactive shadow self creating powerfully from our baser emotions rather than from love. We have a whole cast of shadow characters within us that can rear their ugly heads to wreak havoc in our relationships, our body and our life circumstances. We may identify them as: The Furious One, The Frightened One, The Read More→

The Shift Doctors (Tracy Latz, M.D. & Marion Ross, Ph.D.) are thrilled to have our friend and colleague Cal Garrison share her wisdom on metaphysical topics. Cal is a practicing astrologer with 40 years of experience. At present she goes between casting horoscopes, writing books, and working as the personal assistant to Drunvalo and Claudette Melchizedek. Editor in Chief at Drunvalo’s online magazine, ‘The Spirit of Ma’at’, Cal is also a syndicated columnist for the Associated Press. An author with five books to her credit, and another one on the way, Ms. Garrison is well known for her affiliation with the late Slim Spurling. Out of love for her mentor she continues to support his research with her dowsing, through her articles, and as the spokesperson for Slim’s tools at all of Drunvalo’s workshops. A single mother with three grown daughters, Cal lives happily in the Red Rocks of Sedona, Arizona. Find out more about Cal and read some of her other metaphysical articles at www.spiritofmaat.com

‘Who Wrote the Book of Love?’ by Cal Garrison

A few months ago, I wrote an article that stirred up a little trouble with the powers that be. The details around all of this would be of interest to you I am sure; unfortunately talking about it would only stir up more trouble. The reason I bother to bring it up is because the experience taught me a good lesson in what happens when you tell the truth.

At this point I am wondering if it’s worth it to be so dedicated to the thought that knowledge is power – or that the pen is mightier than the sword – because it seems as if the pen is only mightier until the sword cuts off the hand you write with. And what I have learned from this is that anyone who justifies their existence by writing for a living has to find a way to tell the truth without pissing people off.

I am not sure it’s even possible – but let’s give it a whirl and see if we can wring a little truth out of the question that 99% of us a) don’t know the answer to, and b) seem to be having a huge amount of difficulty with at the moment. I realize that we are diving right into things, but let’s go for it and see what happens if we start talking about relationships. Anyone out there who happens to occupy the 1% of the Read More→

4 Intimate Love Connections: What Makes Love Strongest?

By Tracy Latz · Comments (2)
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Why do some love relationships last for 40+ years while others fade quickly almost overnight or erode over a few years with blistering anger or resentment? I have had many people ask me over the years: “Why do many love relationships fail?” or “I feel so guilty about my marriage failing- especially when I think about the idea of ‘What God has brought together, let no man set asunder! Do you think God can forgive me?’” The answer lies in first examining the 4 levels of connectivity in human relationships.

People can experience ‘Love Connections’ on 4 different levels:

1. Physical Connection- a physical attraction between 2 people. This occurs when one person is attracted to the physical attributes or body of another person. Common thought associated with this type of love connection: “Wow, I think he/she is so hot!”

2. Intellectual Connection- a mutual interest in the same thoughts, philosophies, topics of discussion, books, news items, or hobbies. Common thought associated with this type of love connection: “We can talk about things or debate topics for hours- time just flies by!”

3. Emotional Connection- this supramental connection occurs when two people can communicate deeply at times without words or without full verbal explanation and not just based on superficial body language. Common thought associated with this type of love connection: “Boy, they just ‘get’ me! We could finish each others’ sentences or know what each other mean without saying a word while other people are clueless.”

4. Spiritual Connection- occurs when two people have similar spiritual knowings (as opposed to beliefs) and are on the same spiritual path or share a common spiritual purpose; they see a relationship as Read More→
